Can Home Insurance Help with a Hotel?

November 8, 2012 Posted by admin

A fan of the site sent me an email the other day asking me about whether or not home insurance could cover a hotel bill? It’s a good question but something that requires some clarification.

A lot of people don’t realize that some home insurance coverage can actually extend to the hotel or even a restaurant. It sometimes varies depending on the provider and you should always double-check with ShopHomeInsurance.net or whoever your provider of choice happens to be. However, the fact remains that sometimes home insurance can really help out when it comes to staying in a hotel or even eating in a restaurant.

Let’s say, for example, that something has happened to your home and now repairs are needed. Luckily you got your home insured, but for the remainder of the time it takes to affect these repairs, you cannot live in that home. Believe it or not, there are some coverage plans that will actually cover your hotel bills and even your eating expenses.

This is typically referred to as Loss of Use coverage and it is primarily designed to protect YOU, the person who lives in the home under the insurance policy. Granted some providers might tell you what hotel to go to and what restaurants to eat at, but it’s a heck of a safety net.
